I’d like to share some tips regarding communication and connection with your person in the middle part of their dementia journey.
· Gain your person's attention before you start to verbally communicate with them
· Slow down
· Speak intentionally – short, clear, concise sentences
· Give time for your person to process and respond
· Demonstrate physically what you're saying verbally
· “Find the root” of what your person enjoys – if they’re not able to engage in the hobbies or actions that they used to, then find related actions that they can do
· Visit by connecting through a beloved activity
· Don’t try to do too many things at once
